By reading the title, we immediately have a multitude of images in our minds of crisises we have seen and heard about. We live in a time in which events are piling up and seem to overwhelm us. We are not only confronted with local topics, but also with global problems and horrors such as wars, famines and financial crises. All of this keeps us in suspense and seems to take our breath away due to the rapid succession of events. Everything seems so far away and yet so close. We long for a break, for the opportunity to take a deep breath.

She remains steadfast, resists the gazes, does not give in ...

The video 'silenced' is part of the art project 'RED | of disappearance and resistance', which tells of women, their visibility and invisibility and their attempts to resist oppression. I herewith visualise the emotional blurs that arise through isolation, distress or withdrawal, but also through the dynamics of resistance.

this is not nice  VIOLENCE

Water is most often associated with concepts such as beauty, reflections of light, relaxation, soothing sounds, deep breathing, refreshment. Water can be gentle. However, the step to violence is only a foot away. Horror, mass, unrestrained roar, ruthless rolling over, taking breath....

Being alone also means being solo. But being solo does not necessarily mean being alone and lonely. Perhaps being alone is just a question of how you view the word and its literal interpretation?
In a word analysis rally, the view of being alone changes in unexpected ways.

JUST ANOTHER TUESDAY

Here you can watch a short teaser video.

Black musicians and composers are underrepresented in the classical music scene in orchestras around the world and are only accepted to a limited extent. The music of Black composers is rarely performed. Throughout their development and careers, musicians experience discrimination, rejection and the psychological trauma that comes with it. The film addresses this problem.

Pamela Coats herself appears in the video, representing her own and other black musicians' and composers' injuries and experiences. Interspersed in the film are statements from colleagues who have experienced this themselves in the orchestra and opera sector, as well as from the audience. The art video therefore deals with themes such as injury, invisibility and ignorance, but also with artistic quality, interaction, dreams and hopes.

Art video by Ele Runge (video und percussion) and Pamela Coats (clarinet) based on a composition by Ilse Fromm Michaels, at about 1922. The video was part of the PAV Stip 2021 granted by KULTURWERK SH e.V., Germany. According to the composition the video has three parts: Klage (lament), Schalkslaune (joking mood) and Schwermut (melancholia), which we transferred into different times so as 1920, 1970/80, 2020/21. The times are pointed up with different outfits and cinematic effects aswell as sparingly added percussion.

What is an idea and how does it emerge?
In a synthesis of voice and sound, this audio piece depicts the various phases that the artist goes through again and again until an idea emerges and she can finally start working. The process is like a circle of inspiration, resignation, depression and procrastination, explosion and euphoria.
A flow of voice and sound arises, an intense dance that verbally and acoustically circles the search for an idea.

This video is a joint project of the concert organist Kerstin Petersen and me, funded by the Music Fund and the Federal Office for Culture and Media, Hamburg.

The organ work 'bei mir' by composer Alyssa Aska (Graz) and played by Kerstin Petersen (Hamburg) was created on the basis of a commissioned composition as part of ORGEL AKTUELL. Additional inspiration came from the watercolour painting 'Maria von Magdala' by Mehrdad Zaeri (Mannheim).   It was premiered in the Church of St. Marien in Hamburg-Ottensen on March 21st, 2021.
